WHAT ARE THREE WORDS TO DESCRIBE OUR CITY?
S: emerging. pristine. evolving.
WHAT DOES 'ELEVATING COMMUNITY' MEAN TO YOU?
S: have you ever travelled somewhere remote, culturally different, + far from home, + after being away for a while met a fellow traveller who just happened to live in your area code? that feeling of connection we have with our neighbours when we meet them far away from home is something I would love to feel when we are at home. that sense that every meeting is special, unique + surprising, along with the willingness to jump into the conversational deep end right away, is a beautiful thing, + something that I think can help elevate community. I'm working on my own ability to invite this type of connection into my day to day here at home + one of the real challenges is slowing life down enough to create the space for it.
WHAT IS YOUR HEART + SOUL MEDICINE ? [AKA: YOUR SELF-LOVE REMEDIES]
S: one of my favourite self-care routines is immersing myself in water every day - i.e. taking baths. I was born by the ocean, live by the river + am a water sign. the feeling of water on my body is reassuring + nurturing.
freshly squeezed orange juice is something I drink daily. my body's request. recently I had an intuitive healer tell me to drink freshly squeezed OJ + I laughed. already on it.
almost always, when repetitive or unwelcome thoughts arise, for me this is an indication that there is something on an emotional level that needs to be expressed or released. inviting emotions forward is a really important part of my own self-care + allows me to feel less burdened by thoughts and at greater ease overall.
WHAT'S YOUR FAV YYC RESTAURANT? #SUPPORTLOCAL
S: I am a huge fan of Calcutta Cricket Club. apart from their incredible railway station chai, which is the real deal, their team is so so warm + welcoming. I had my 42nd birthday there recently + got the royal treatment. I always feel like I've entered into a tiny haven of pink + green when I step through their doors, + appreciate the bonus side effect of feeling connected to my part Indian roots.

SOMETHING YOU SHOULD DANCE TO
WHAT'S SALIMA'S #STYLEFROMTHEINSIDEOUT ?!
why SALIMA digs it?!
S: sometimes I feel like leadership + success requires me to tap into my masculine energy more than I might want to. 'killing it softly' reminds me that we can carve out our own paths, including one where there is gentleness, quiet + softness in the space of success + leadership.
she loves them because...
S: I've never seen a more beautiful blue. 'WILD' doesn't make me think wild + crazy, but more like untamed, imperfect + free. colouring outside the lines. loving the mess. BEING yourself. being so free that even your self-judgment, self-consciousness + self-doubt are allowed + ok.
