the first thing you'll notice about Lourdes... she lives on PURPOSE; when you meet Lourdes you quickly learn that no goal is too big, no dream un-attainable. this gal shows up fully in everything she does + it's all woven into her BIG picture vision for our city.
HOW CAN BE PEOPLE BEST SUPPORT YOU + THE WORK THAT YOU DO?
L: we are always looking for volunteers. we created a smartphone app with bright high school student from Bishop McNally a couple of years ago, the app they prototyped can be downloaded + volunteers can sign up to rescue food in Alberta.

WHAT ARE 3 WORDS YOU WOULD USE TO DESCRIBE OUR CITY?
L: ambitious. entrepeneurial. changing.
IF YOU COULD PAINT A VISION FOR CALGARY'S FUTURE, WHAT WOULD IT LOOK LIKE?
L: i'd love it if young Calgarians became civic activists! we need to support good city building, support small businesses + entrepeneurial thinking, + we need to build a city for EVERYONE. I believe we can do this by engaging young people + supporting them to reform antiquated systems. ALSO, everyone could waste a little less food :)
WHAT DOES 'ELEVATING COMMUNITY' MEAN TO YOU?
L: it means lifting each other up + always looking at things from a social justice perspective. a sense of unity is how we are going to get through hard times + so we need to practice that in the good times. it would be a double tragedy if we didn't learn how to come together as a community after the pandemic.
IF YOU WERE ASKED BY SOMEONE SEEKING COMMUNITY OR LOOKING TO BROADEN THEIR COMMUNITY, WHAT WOULD YOUR ADVICE TO THEM BE?
L: I encourage every single Calgarian to join a non-profit committee or board. I think it's so important to get involved at any age. everyone has something to share, a skillset, a trade, a network, a smile, the list goes on! the more connected we are through something that we are passionate about, or want to learn more about, makes the world of difference for organizations that are looking for more engagement.
