ICYMI, this past year one of our many RAD COMMUNITY KILLA connections, GREW. we were so inspired by Salima Stanley-Bhanji + the work she does with her team over at Humainologie + Spread Empathy YYC, + when she shared her HEART + goals for the initiative THE PERIOD PROJECT, we knew we wanted to help.
SO, what is THE PERIOD PROJECT ?!
a gender inclusive + community led initiative to address period poverty in Calgary.
WHY is this initiative so important ?!
- 1/3 of Canadian people under 25 who have periods, cannot afford menstrual products.
- those who are homeless, low-income +/or from marginalized communities, may not have access to period products at all.
- we believe that access to affordable menstrual products is a basic human need.
- many period poverty initiatives do not use inclusive language + fail to recognize that not every woman menstruates + not everyone who menstruates is a woman. our goal for The Period Project is to come together to help women, trans, + non-binary Calgarians who menstruate access the essentials they need.
WHAT WE’VE ACHIEVED SO FAR:
this past month, the teams from PARTS+LABOR + Humainologie along with volunteers, were able to pack 150 special edition P+L clutches using the donations provided. these clutches will be delivered with the help of front-line organizations to individuals in our communities who need them.
we’re SO blown away by the generosity of those who have supported the initiative so far. + we’re so excited to continue this work!
WAYS YOU CAN SUPPORT:
with every P+L purchase made online, you will have the opportunity to add a donation to cart. select your quantity of $5 donations + check out! financial donations will be used to purchase additional supplies + provide menstrual essentials to women, trans + non-binary Calgarians.
